Chapter 24

The Test: Day 2

Shane

I took a deep breath as I looked at the alphas and lunas that were seated around the table that rested in front of me. As soon as I sent out the message, many of the pack leaders rushed here with many more still on the way.

I readjusted my sweatshirt and instantly, Ariel’s scent flooded my senses, causing a mix of sadness and relaxation to fall over me like rain. This was Ariel’s favorite sweatshirt of mine.

“As you all may know, my mate, Luna Ariel, was taken yesterday from our home while I was on my way to the original Alphas’ Conference.”

A few gasps filled the air as my words fell unto unknowing ears. No matter how many times I’d practiced this spiel, a lump always formed in my throat as the sentence formed on my tongue as horrid images and thoughts of what they could be doing to her at this very moment came into mind. But I forced myself to keep going because I knew that I wouldn’t be doing her any good if I didn’t.

“We need to find her as soon as possible. Her first heat is due any week now and if the mutt who took her touches her…” I had to stop myself as rage filled my being from head to toe as if I were drowning in it.

Heat was a seven day period when we would crave each other until we were consummated. If we didn’t complete it within those seven days, it would come back every month, each month stronger than the last, until it became too strong and we’d die. The thought of her going through that around someone else…

I balled my hands into fists as my claws extended on their own accord, the stench of my blood slowly drifting into the air, but the pain calmed me down a bit.

“Just please, help me find my Ariel,” I begged, looking at all of them in the eyes. This was the weakest and most vulnerable I had been in front of these alphas or any alpha in general, but I didn’t care. “I… I can’t get through this without her. She’s my everything.”

Tears gathered in my eyes, and at that moment, as my chest became impossibly tight, I didn’t care if they saw me cry. I didn’t care if they saw me have a complete mental breakdown and slip into insanity without her. All I cared about was getting my mate back, no matter what I had to do.

“Of course. We’ll help you, Shane,” a deep voice said, which I knew belonged to none other than Alpha Clayton, the alpha of the Blue Moon Pack, the fourth strongest pack in America.

I could see how much pain this brought him, especially because his first mate was killed in a rogue attack. Luckily, the Moon Goddess gifted him with a second-chance mate, which was extremely rare. The only reason Luna Shawn, his new mate, wasn’t here was because she fell gravely
